How Vincent Ranked the Courses

The ranking process combined two key components: player performance correlations and course statistics.

Here were the steps:

The ranking process combined two key components: player performance correlations and expanded course statistics. Here's how we did it:

1.     First, we calculated performance correlations using historical strokes gained data, requiring a minimum of 50 common players between courses. We used the Pearson correlation coefficient to measure how similarly players performed at each course compared to the host venue.

2.     For course statistics, we expanded our analysis to include:

  • Course setup: Fairway width, rough differential, penalties

  • Scoring metrics: Par 3/4/5 scoring, overall scoring average

  • Performance metrics: All strokes gained categories, GIR%, driving accuracy

  • Distance-based metrics: Performance from various ranges (<150, >150)
